Rafael Núñez International Airport, opened on February 14, 1920, serves Cartagena de Indias. Due to its tourist movement, it is one of the most important airports in Colombia, only behind Bogota's El Dorado Airport and Medellín's international airport. In addition to numerous domestic destinations, it operates several international routes within the American continent and Europe.

The airport is located inside the urban area, in the Crespo district, 3 km (2 miles) northwest from downtown Cartagena.
