Malé airport (MLE)

Velana International Airport, also known as Malé International Airport and opened on 19 October 1960, is the most important airport in the Maldives and the main gateway to the country for tourists. It operates domestic and international flights to destinations in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

 Location

The airport is located on Hulhulé Island, 3 km (1.8 miles) northeast of Malé city, in Kaafu Atoll.

Car rental agencies

There are no car rental company counters inside the airport. Distances are short, and transfers between islands are carried out by boat, small aircraft, and seaplanes.

There is a small car park outside the terminals, but it is mainly reserved for official vehicles.

Facilities for passengers with special needs

Ramps, lifts, adapted toilets, and wheelchairs on request are available. Inform your airline about your specific needs before arriving. Minors travelling unaccompanied (between 6 and 12 years old) will be escorted by airport staff through the check-in process and until boarding the aircraft.
