Transportation

Salvador International Airport (SSA) has excellent connections to the city center and tourist areas, featuring integration with the Metro system via a free shuttle bus.

Ride-sharing Apps

Uber and 99 services operate regularly at the airport. To board your vehicle, you must go to the designated area on the outer curb of the arrivals level.

Meeting Point: Generally located on the central road in front of the terminal (second lane), following the "App de Transporte" signs. Always follow the app's instructions, as the exact location may vary depending on traffic.

Metro (Metrô Bahia)

It is the fastest and most economical option to avoid Salvador's traffic. The Aeroporto metro station (Line 2) is not attached to the terminal but is easily connected.

Free Shuttle: A free shuttle bus connects the passenger terminal to the metro station. It departs every 10-15 minutes from the stop located on the arrivals level (right side upon exiting).

Connections: Line 2 goes to the Acesso Norte station, where you can transfer to Line 1 towards the historic center (Campo da Pólvora station for Pelourinho) or the bus terminal (Rodoviária).

Public Buses (Integra)

Several urban lines connect the airport to the city's neighborhoods. Most depart from the "Terminal de Ônibus Aeroporto" (next to the metro) or from "Praça Gago Coutinho" in front of the terminal.

  • 1001: Aeroporto / Praça da Sé (Via Orla/Barra). A tourist route that runs along the coast.
  • 1035: Aeroporto / Praça da Sé (Via Garibaldi).
  • 1024: Aeroporto / Jardim das Margaridas.
  • 1625: Aeroporto / Paripe (Via Cajazeiras).

Taxis

Taxi service at Salvador Airport is a safe and comfortable option, available 24 hours a day. Taxi stands are located on the outer curb of the Arrivals (Desembarque) level.

Special Taxis (Cooperatives):
These are executive vehicles (usually white with blue stripes or completely blue) that offer greater comfort and pre-established flat rates by zone.
How to hire: It is recommended to go to the cooperative counters (such as Coometas or Comtas) located in the arrivals hall. There, you pay for the trip in advance by card or cash, avoiding surprises in the price.

Regular Taxis (Comuns):
These are the city's conventional taxis (white with red and blue stripes). They operate exclusively using a taximeter.
Recommendation: Make sure the driver activates the taximeter at the start of the trip ("Bandeira 1" on weekdays, "Bandeira 2" at night and on Sundays).

Travel time:
The airport is about 28 km (17 miles) from the historic center. Contrary to some optimistic estimates, the trip to Pelourinho or the Barra neighborhood usually takes between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on traffic, which can be heavy during peak hours.

Transportation Tips to/from the airport

Although there are issues that seem more than obvious, it is always advisable to take them into account when moving to or from the airport, and especially if we go by public transport.

1- To the airport - It is convenient to leave with a little more anticipation than what is commonly suggested. If you choose a taxi or a private car service, always take into account peak traffic times, demonstrations, strikes or events that may delay the journey to the airport from where you are. It is always good to be informed about what is happening.

If you contract a shared transfer service, have a contact telephone number handy in case of any delay by the company. In these cases they usually already have a scheduled collection time.

If you use public transport (collective, train) take into account the schedules (weekends and holidays tend to have less frequency), if you have to change and also how to board (if you need a card or paying the driver or motorist at the moment ). These are details that seem obvious, but it is advisable to know so as not to have surprises and suffer a delay that could cause complications.

If you rent a car to get to the airport, check where to leave the vehicle. At some airports, there is an exclusive parking lot for rental cars.

2 -From the airport- Here it is a little less stressful since you don't have the pressure of missing your flight. In the worst case, you will arrive later at the place where you are going to stay or at the meeting point where you are trying to arrive.

Once you leave the plane, look for your suitcase and finish with the arrival procedures that are required. Then, follow the directions for public transportation or ask the airport staff.

It is very useful to find out in advance the schedules of the buses or trains in case you arrive late at night. Not all work 24 hours. The same goes for taxis. In case of using an Uber-type service, have the mobile application handy to contact the driver.

On the other hand, if you booked a private transport service, it is likely that they will have a person waiting for you, identified with a sign. If you rent a car to go from the airport to your final destination, for greater peace of mind it is advisable to book it in advance. Rental counters are usually available in the arrivals hall.
