Sleeping inside or in nearby hotels (LGA)
Possibility to spend the night at New York LaGuardia airport (LGA), if open 24 hours. Services available, places to rest (free resting zones), or look for the list of nearby hotels and vip lounges.
Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
LaGuardia has improved dramatically after its renovation—cleaner, safer, and far more modern. Still, for overnight stays the key challenge is that security checkpoints close overnight (typically between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM). Travelers often must remain landside, where seating is more limited than airside.
Where to Rest
With checkpoints closed, options are limited to check-in and arrivals halls:
- Terminal B: Arrivals level and the baggage-claim area are the most common spots. Most benches have metal armrests. Floors are hard (terrazzo), so a thin mat/blanket is very helpful.
- Terminal C: Seating near the departures (check-in) area is limited. Some quieter corners exist near drop-off zones, but expect cleaning noise and frequent announcements.
Safety: The airport is well-lit with visible security, but keep valuables close, loop straps through your leg/arm, and use zipper locks or a cable if you doze.
Luggage
There is no left-luggage/consigna service at LGA. You must stay with your bags until your airline counters open.
Food & Drinks
Overnight food options landside are very limited. Bring your own snacks and water or rely on vending machines. Stock up before arriving if possible.
Wi-Fi & Charging
Free, unlimited Wi-Fi throughout the terminals. Plenty of outlets and USB ports are available even in public areas.
24/7 Services
- ATMs.
- Nursing suites.
- Pet relief areas.
Street-smart tips: layer up (A/C runs cold); eye mask + earplugs help a lot; set alarms for 30–40 min before security reopens; keep your phone charged and a boarding pass screenshot saved; avoid sleeping near outer doors due to drafts.
Booking accommodation
Hotels
There are no hotels inside LaGuardia’s terminals. Thanks to its urban Queens location, however, you’ll find many hotels just minutes away, most offering a complimentary airport shuttle.
Close-by options with shuttle
Hotel shuttles typically pick up on the Arrivals level or at signed ground-transport centers. Call your hotel after landing to confirm the exact pickup point and wait time.
- New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott: One of the closest, right across from the airport.
- LaGuardia Plaza Hotel: Popular, convenient—opposite Terminal C.
- Hampton Inn New York – LaGuardia Airport: Free breakfast; handy Ditmars Blvd location.
- Aloft New York LaGuardia Airport: Modern, urban vibe.
- Holiday Inn LaGuardia Airport: Near Citi Field; good access to the city.
Smart traveler tips
- Confirm shuttle details: frequency (often every 20–30 min), pickup terminal/level, and whether you must call on arrival.
- Backup plan: if shuttle delays occur (weather/traffic), use an official taxi or rideshare; keep a screenshot of the hotel address.
- Late arrival: arriving after 11 PM? Call ahead so the hotel keeps your booking active.
- Accessibility: verify ADA room availability and whether the shuttle has a wheelchair lift.
- Luggage: ask about early check-in or luggage hold if you arrive before room time.
