Facilities for passengers with special needs
Keflavík Airport offers free assistance for passengers with reduced mobility and operates a support programme for people with non-visible disabilities.
Assistance for Reduced Mobility
Special assistance must be requested from the airline or travel agency you are flying with at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure time. It is the airline’s responsibility to forward this request to the airport.
- Arrival Notification: Once at the airport, you should notify your arrival at your airline’s check-in counter, through the intercom system in the designated car parks, or at the Service Desk in the Departures Hall.
- Included Services: PRM staff assist with check-in, security and customs checks, luggage, boarding/disembarking (including the use of a special lift or hoist upon request), and connection to transport.
- Facilities: The airport has lifts and accessible toilets available.
Non-Visible Disabilities (Sunflower Lanyard)
Keflavík participates in the international Sunflower Lanyard programme to support passengers with hidden disabilities (such as autism, dementia, or hearing difficulties). Wearing the lanyard indicates to airport staff that the passenger may require extra time, patience, and understanding.
- Where to Collect: The lanyard can be requested and obtained free of charge and without prior reservation at the check-in counters in the Departures Hall or at the information desk in the Arrivals Hall.
- Important Notice: Wearing the lanyard does not grant priority access in queues or controls, but it helps facilitate assistance and non-verbal communication.
