Car Rental Requirements
While specific policies may vary among rental companies, standard requirements for renting a car in Brazil include:
- Minimum age: Drivers must be at least 21 years old. Certain rental providers permit drivers aged 18 to 20 subject to an additional young driver fee.
- Driver's license: You must present an original and valid driver's license from your home country. In Brazil, foreign licenses are accepted for tourists for up to 180 days.
- Identification: Foreign travelers must present an original valid passport. Brazilian citizens must present RG and CPF documents.
- Credit card: A physical credit card issued by a financial institution in the primary driver's name is mandatory. Digital or third-party cards are not accepted. The card must have sufficient credit limit to hold the security deposit guarantee, which is released upon returning the vehicle undamaged.

- Make sure your driver's license is valid in the destination country. Some countries also require an International Driving Permit (IDP). Keep in mind that the IDP is not valid on its own: it must always be carried together with your national driver's license.
