Ercan International Airport, opened on February 3, 1975, serves the Turkish sector of the island (North Cyprus) and it is not internationally recognized as a legal point of entry except by Turkey and Azerbaijan. It operates with flights to several countries in Europe; however, all of them must make an intermediate stop at a Turkish airport.
