Requirements to Rent a Vehicle in Spain

The general requirements to rent a car in Spain are as follows, although conditions may vary between companies:

• Minimum Age: Generally 21 years. Companies may charge a young driver supplement for drivers under 25.
• Driving Licence Age: A minimum of 1 year of driving experience is required. For high-end vehicles, 2 or 3 years may be requested.
• Identity Documents: EU citizens: Valid national ID or passport. Non-EU citizens: Valid passport.
• Valid Driving Licence: EU/EEA citizens: National driving licence is sufficient. Non-EU/EEA citizens: An International Driving Permit (IDP) must be presented along with a valid national driving licence, especially if the licence is not in Spanish or does not use the Latin alphabet.
• Payment Method: A physical credit card in the name of the main driver is required to secure the deposit. Virtual cards or cash are not accepted for the deposit.
