Requirements for Renting a Vehicle

To rent a car at Mariscal Sucre Airport, you will generally need to meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum age: You must be at least 21 years old. Some companies may apply a "young driver" surcharge for drivers under 25.
  • Driver's license: A valid driver's license from your country of residence is required. Foreign visitors are advised to carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with their national driver's license.
  • Credit card: A credit card in the name of the primary driver is required to place the security deposit hold (deductible). Debit cards or cash are generally not accepted for this purpose.
  • Identification: Original passport or valid national identity card.

Tips for renting a car in Ecuador

  1. Check that your driver's license is valid in Ecuador. Some countries also ask for an International Driving Permit (IDP), which is only valid together with your national license.
