Return of Rental Vehicles
To return a vehicle, follow the specific signage within the airport. If the rental company counter is closed at the time of return, you must contact the company by telephone. During terminal opening hours, keys can be deposited in the designated secure key drop box.
Requirements to Rent a Vehicle
Although specific requirements may vary slightly between companies, in general you will need to meet the following conditions:
- Driving Licence: A valid, current driving licence issued in your country of residence. Drivers from outside the European Union may require an International Driving Permit (IDP).
- Minimum Age: At least 21 years old (this age may vary, and for some vehicle categories or companies it may be higher, such as 23 or 25 years). Young drivers (e.g. under 25) are usually required to pay an additional daily surcharge.
- Payment: A credit card in the name of the main driver to cover the security deposit. Some companies may accept debit cards under certain conditions.
- Insurance: Basic third-party liability insurance is mandatory and is normally included in the rental rate. Additional coverage options (such as CDW – Collision Damage Waiver) are available to reduce the excess in the event of damage.
Important tip: Always check the exact requirements, fuel policies, included mileage and insurance coverage details directly on the rental company’s website when making your reservation.

5 tips for renting a car abroad
- Certify that you have a valid driver's license to drive in the destination country. If you are a foreigner, check if you need to validate your license in your country of origin. It should be noted that the International permit is NOT valid by itself, it must always be accompanied by the National Driver's License.
- Documentation and vehicle insurance required according to current traffic regulations.
- Take into account the traffic rules that currently apply in the destination country. Maximum speeds allowed on highways, avenues and streets, priorities of passage at intersections without traffic lights, tolerance of allowed blood alcohol, etc.
- Direction of movement and the way in which cars should be driven on the streets. If the side where the steering wheel is located in the cars of your country matches the vehicles in the destination country.
- Know the procedure to follow in case of starring in or suffering a traffic accident.
