Overnight stay at the airport

Can you spend the night at Los Cabos airport (SJD)? Opening hours, rest areas and services for long layovers. See also the airport guide for general information.

Overnight Hours and Terminal Closures

Unlike some international airports, passengers are not permitted to spend the night inside Los Cabos Airport. The terminal buildings and public areas close completely after the day's last scheduled flight arrives or departs (typically between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM), at which point airport security staff clears all waiting areas. Checkpoint screening and terminal concourses reopen the following morning around 6:00 AM.

Rest Alternatives

Because staying overnight inside the terminals is prohibited and there are no airside sleeping cabins, the immediate recommended option is staying at Hotel Aeropuerto Los Cabos, located 500 meters away with free 24-hour shuttle service. For longer layovers, downtown and resort accommodations in San José del Cabo are just 15 minutes away by taxi or transfer.

Luggage and Storage

The airport does not have luggage lockers or left-luggage storage facilities. Passengers must keep their bags with them until airline check-in desks open in the morning.

Nighttime Dining

There are no 24-hour convenience stores or restaurants operating through the night inside the terminals. Food establishments open in sync with early morning departures and close after evening flights.

Security and Wi-Fi

During daylight operating hours, the airport is monitored by the National Guard and private GAP security personnel. Terminal Wi-Fi access is only active while the buildings are open for flight operations.

Services and opening hours can change. If you plan to sleep in the public area, have a plan B: some airports only let passengers with a flight stay overnight.

Tips for a long layover

  1. Check whether you can leave the airport: it depends on your nationality, the visa rules of Mexico and whether your bags are checked through.
  2. If you sleep airside, you will usually need a boarding pass for a flight that day. Ask your airline before you go through security.
