Rental companies at the airport

The offices of the car rental agencies are located on level U2 of the P10 car park building, situated within easy walking distance of the passenger terminal.

Requirements for renting a car

If you plan to drive in Norway, please bear in mind the following general requirements typically requested by rental companies at the airport:

  • Driving licence: You must present a valid licence with at least one year of validity. If your licence is not from an EU/EEA country or is not written in Latin characters, you will most likely need an International Driving Permit (IDP).
  • Minimum age: The minimum age is usually 19, although this varies depending on the vehicle category. Drivers under 25 are generally subject to an additional “young driver” surcharge.
  • Credit card: A credit card in the name of the main driver is required in order to place the security deposit hold.
  • Additional documentation: A valid passport or identity document, and proof of the booking in printed or digital form.

Tips for renting a car in Norway

  1. Check that your driver's license is valid in Norway. Some countries also ask for an International Driving Permit (IDP), which is only valid together with your national license.
  2. Review what the rental includes: collision damage waiver, third-party liability and the deductible. Most companies also hold a deposit on a credit card in the driver's name.
  3. Learn the local rules before you drive: speed limits, right of way, alcohol limits and tolls.
  4. Check which side of the road traffic drives on and where the steering wheel is.
  5. At pickup, photograph the car (inside and out) and the fuel level, and keep the photos until the deposit is returned.
  6. Know what to do in an accident: who to call, what to document and how to report it to the rental company.
