Sleeping at Kahului Airport

Kahului Airport is not designed or equipped for comfortable overnight sleeping. Under federal security regulations, TSA security checkpoints close shortly after the day's final scheduled departures (typically between 11:00 pm and 11:30 pm) and do not reopen until 5:00 am. Consequently, passengers cannot remain inside the secure airside concourses overnight.

Travelers spending the night must remain in the public, landside ground-level areas, primarily the open-air baggage claim corridor. Because parts of the facility are open to the elements, overnight conditions can be humid, drafty, and prone to mosquitoes; insect repellent, warm layers, and earplugs are strongly recommended, as Hawaiian background music and airport announcements play continuously throughout the night. Seating consists of hard wooden or stone benches without armrests.

Overnight Services

No dining outlets, coffee shops, or retail stores remain open 24 hours; concessions close by 10:00 pm. There are also no luggage lockers or public showers. For passengers with early-morning departures or extended overnight layovers, booking a nearby hotel in Kahului is strongly advised.
