Chengdu Shuangliu Airport (CTU)

Chengdu-Shuangliu International Airport, opened as a civil airport on December 12, 1956, is one of the largest in China. It serves the city-sub-province of Chengdu. Due to the great decrease in international traffic of the most important airports due to the Coronavirus situation, in 2021 the Chengdu airport was positioned as the second with the highest flow of passengers not only in China but in all of Asia (only surpassed by the airport of Guangzhou). In addition to numerous domestic destinations, it has international flights to neighboring countries in Asia, some in Europe, the United States and Canada.

Number of terminals - 2 - Terminal 1 (international) and Terminal 2 (domestic). Both are open 24 hours a day and connected by an inter-terminal bus from 06:00 to 00:00.

There are two information counters: In Terminal 1 in the Check-in Hall, near gate 5. And in Terminal 2 in the Check-in Hall , near gate 11, boarding area, (Departures) hall.

It is located in the Shuangliu district, 16 kilometers from the center of Chengdu, in the province of Sichuan, in the People's Republic of China.

Inside the airport is the CHENGDU AIRPORT EXPRESS HOTEL. It is located in T2. It has 210 rooms. It also has meeting rooms, a lobby and a small shop. Parking is available as well.

Public and private transportation

The best options to get to the city center from the airport are taxis or private transfers. However, if you don't have a lot of luggage with you, Metro can also be a great option.

Bus

There are several bus routes to and from Chengdu airport, be it local bus, night bus or long-distance bus. 

Route 1 - airport - central Chengdu
Route 2 - airport - north railway station
Route 3 - airport - east railway station
Night Bus 1 - Chengdu Airport - Minshan Hotel. Hours from 10:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. 
Night Bus 2 - Chengdu Airport - Buixi Bus Station. Hours from 22:00 to 05:30. 
Night Bus 3 - Chengdu Airport - Wuhouci Street Station (Wuhouci, Jinli). Hours from 21:00 to 03:00. 

Inter-city services: They go to various destinations in the region.

Taxi cabs

A trip from CTU airport to downtown Chengdu usually costs between 80 and 100 CNY.

If you have to go to the South Railway Station, it will cost 20-30 CNY. Normally, the price can be negotiated with the taxi driver.

RIDE SHARING SERVICES
In China there is DiDi, the Chinese app for ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft. It works just like the others. First you have to download the application and then you can order a DiDi.

Subway

Metro line 10 is the one that arrives at the airport and can be boarded from both terminals. The journey to the last stop, in Taipingyuan, takes 12 minutes. From there, passengers can transfer to Line 3, which leads to central Chengduu. Service hours are from 06:00 am to 11:00 pm.

Trains

It has two train lines, one that goes to the different areas of Chengdu and the other is inter-city (joining neighboring towns).

To board the train, passengers must board from Terminal 2. 

Car rental agencies

At CTU Airport you will find car rental companies, but it is important that you know that you need a Chinese car license to rent a car in China.

So basically if you are a tourist you cannot rent a car by yourself. Many Chinese car rental companies rent cars with Chinese drivers.

There are 3 parking lots at CTU Airport and they are located in front of Terminal 1. The prices are as follows:

SMALL VEHICLE RATE

- First hour: 4 RMB
- Every 30 minutes after: 2 RMB
- Maximum per day: 96 Yuan

LARGE VEHICLE RATE

- First hour: RMB 8
- Every 30 minutes after: RMB 6

Facilities for passengers with special needs

Persons requiring special assistance or wheelchairs should inform their airline of their particular needs prior to travel. There are elevators and ramps, adapted toilets and accessible telephones inside the terminals.
