Christchurch International Airport, opened on May 18, 1940, is one of the busiest in New Zealand. It operates with several domestic flights and international destinations in Oceania, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Ride-sharing

Uber, Ola, Zoomy and Zilch offer services that pick passengers up behind the Express Park.

Bus

There are regular services from Metro Bus (Tel +64 3366 8855) that connect the airport with the city centre (25-30 minutes trip) and other destinations in Christchurch, departing from the stop located in the northern end of the International Arrivals Hall (door 9). Tickets can be acquired on board. The Purple Line departs every 30 min. to Avonhead Mall, Westfield Riccarton, Central Station, Ferrymead and Sumner; it operates Mondays through Fridays between 6:35 am and 11:37 pm, Saturdays from 6:05 am to 11:39 pm and Sundays from 6:37 am to 11:39 pm. Line 29 runs to the central station via Fendalton every 30 min. Bus 125 links Redwood with Westlake, stopping at Northlands Mall, Bishopdale Mall and Russley.
Super Shuttle (Tel +64 9522 5100 / 800 748 885) provides a shared door-to-door minibus service to Christchurch and surrounding areas 24 hours a day. Stops are found outside the International Arrivals Hall.

Ranks are situated through door 7, outside the International Arrivals Hall. Journey time to downtown Christchurch is 15-20 minutes. Express Park - Facility with three covered levels and security cameras, 1 minute away from the terminal. Free areas for motorcycles and bicycles on the ground floor.
Short Stay - Outdoor, monitored area connected to the main building through a covered walkway.
Long Stay - Ideal for periods of more than 3 days, uncovered and with security cameras, close to the International Arrivals Hall.
Orchard Road Car Park - Low-cost lot for long stays. The first 30 min. have no charge.
The Loop - Passenger pick-up and drop-off zone beneath the Express Park.

 

Facilities for passengers with special needs

Facilities include ATMs with Braille signage, automatic doors, accessible drinking fountains, elevators, designated spaces in all car parks and adapted toilets. Passengers requiring special assistance or wheelchairs should contact their airline before their arrival.
