Ground transportation options

Public transportation, licensed taxis and ride-hailing apps, private transfers and car rental at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport (BKK), 30 km from Bangkok. See also the airport guide for general information.

Ride-sharing

The Grab app has an official pickup point authorized since April 2024, located on level 1 of the terminal, gate 4, outer lane. The service operates 24 hours. Once the driver is assigned in the app, go to that point and confirm your location through the chat function; the driver may ask for a photo of the pickup area before proceeding. Bolt and InDrive apps are also available as ride-sharing alternatives, with frequently lower fares.

Train - Airport Rail Link

The Airport Rail Link (ARL) connects the airport to central Bangkok quickly and economically, without depending on traffic. The station is on level B (basement) of the terminal; follow the "Airport Rail Link" or "Train to City" signs. Operates daily from 5:10 am until midnight, with departures every 10-15 minutes depending on the schedule. The journey to Phaya Thai station takes approximately 26-27 minutes, with stops at Lat Krabang, Ban Thap Chang, Hua Mak, Ramkhamhaeng, Makkasan, and Ratchaprarop. The fare ranges between 15 and 45 baht depending on distance (Makkasan: 35 baht, with connection to MRT Blue Line; Phaya Thai: 45 baht, with connection to BTS Skytrain). Since November 2025, the ARL accepts contactless payment with Visa, Mastercard, JCB, and UnionPay cards directly at the ticket gates, in addition to the usual token vending machines.

At Lat Krabang station, you can take an SRT suburban train to Rangsit, in the northern part of the city, passing through central Bangkok and Don Mueang airport.

Taxis

Metered taxis (taxi-meter) are available 24 hours on level 1 of the terminal, between gates 4 and 7 (inner lane). Get a queue ticket from the automatic machines before approaching the vehicle; the printed number indicates the lane where the taxi is waiting for you. The fare is by meter, with a fixed surcharge of 50 baht for departures from the airport; highway tolls (approximately 75 baht) are paid separately in cash. The journey to central Bangkok takes between 30 and 50 minutes depending on traffic.

In addition to the standard taxi, two VIP electric vehicle services operate: the EV Society fleet (gates 4 and 7, central lane) and CABBY (gate 3, central lane), both with differentiated fares. The premium limousine service AOT Limousine, operated by Airports of Thailand, has its counters on level 2, in the arrivals area.

Buses

Most public bus services depart from the Public Transport Center, about 3 kilometers from the main terminal. To get there, take one of the airport's free shuttles (routes A, C, or F) from level 1, gates 3 or 8. Some services depart directly from the terminal.

Bor Khor Sor (Transport Co. Limited) services - from level 1, gate 8:

  • Suvarnabhumi - Chonburi - Laem Chabang (7:00 am to 7:30 pm)
  • Suvarnabhumi - Pattaya (6:00 am to 10:00 pm)
  • Suvarnabhumi - Sriracha (6:00 am to 9:00 pm)
  • Suvarnabhumi - Hua Hin (6:30 am to 7:30 pm)
  • Suvarnabhumi - Koh Chang (7:50 am, 11:00 am, and 2:00 pm, via Chanthaburi and Trat)
  • Suvarnabhumi - Sa Kaeo (variable schedule; check availability before traveling)
  • Suvarnabhumi - Nakhon Ratchasima - Khon Kaen - Udon Thani - Nong Khai (9:00 pm; check availability before traveling)

For Pattaya and Hua Hin, Roong Reuang Coach also operates, with counters on level 1, gate 8, and frequent departures throughout the day to both destinations.

BMTA services - from level 1, gate 7:

  • S1 - Suvarnabhumi, Khao San, Sanam Luang (6:00 am to 8:00 pm) - approx. 60 baht
  • 554 - Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Rangsit (5:00 am to 9:45 pm) - approx. 35 baht
  • 558 - Suvarnabhumi, Central Rama 2 (5:00 am to 9:45 pm) - approx. 35 baht

Public minibuses - from the Public Transport Center:

  • 549 - Suvarnabhumi, Min Buri (6:30 am to 6:30 pm)
  • 552B - Suvarnabhumi, BTS On Nut (5:00 am to 10:00 pm)
  • 555 - Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang (6:00 am to 7:00 pm)
  • 559 - Suvarnabhumi, Future Park Rangsit (6:00 am to 10:00 pm)

Tips for getting to and from BKK

Going to the airport

  1. Leave earlier than you think you need to: Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport is 30 km from Bangkok. Allow for rush-hour traffic, strikes or events, and check the local news before you go.
  2. On public transportation, check the schedule (weekends and holidays usually have fewer services), whether you need to change lines and how to pay: transit card, contactless or cash.
  3. If you booked a shared shuttle, keep the company's phone number at hand in case the pickup is late.
  4. Returning a rental car? Follow the signs to the rental car return area. If you drive your own car, check parking at BKK.

Leaving the airport

  1. After baggage claim and customs, follow the ground transportation signs. The arrivals page has a step-by-step guide.
  2. Arriving late at night? Not every bus or train runs 24 hours: check the last departure in advance. Ride-hailing apps usually pick up at a designated zone, not at the curb.
  3. With a private transfer, the driver usually waits in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name.
