Requirements for Renting a Vehicle

To pick up a vehicle at the airport rental counters, rental agencies require customers to meet the following commercial and regulatory requirements in effect in Honduras:

• Minimum age: The usual minimum rental age ranges from 21 to 25, depending on the company and vehicle category. Drivers between 21 and 24 generally have to pay an additional daily young driver fee.
• Driver's license: A physical, original, valid driver's license from the driver's country of residence, held for at least one or two years. If the license is not written in the Latin alphabet, it must be presented together with an International Driving Permit (IDP).
• Passport or identification document: A valid passport with an immigration entry stamp for foreign tourists, or a National Identification Document (DNI) for Honduran citizens or residents.
• Credit card: An international credit card in the name of the reservation holder with sufficient available credit to place the security deposit on hold for the duration of the rental. Debit cards, cash, and prepaid cards are generally not accepted for this temporary hold.
• Insurance and coverage: Minimum mandatory third-party liability coverage (TPL/ALI), in addition to collision and theft coverage (CDW/LDW), which may be provided by the rental agency or covered through your credit card benefits with the corresponding official documentation.
