Covid-19: Regulations for travel to Puerto Rico

International travel to Puerto Rico is allowed for vaccinated travelers. This does not apply to citizens and permanent residents. You need to meet the requirements to ensure entry is allowed.

Mandatory vaccination

Travelers must present a valid international certificate for complete vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine. The final dose must have been administered at least 14 days prior to departure. All vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) or the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are accepted.

It is recommended to go into quarantine

The CDC recommends that unvaccinated travelers be quarantined for 7 days and take a viral test 3-5 days after arrival. Those who do not take the test are advised to self-quarantine for a total of 10 days. Vaccinated travelers are also advised to take a viral test 3-5 days after arrival and self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms. More recommendations can be found HERE

It is mandatory to submit medical certificate / proof

Proof of a negative test, taken within the previous 24 hours, must be provided upon departure. Results of RT-PCR, RT-LAMP, TMA, NEAR, HDA and antigen tests will be accepted.

Other medical measures

All passengers are subject to health checks on arrival, such as temperature checks and visual evaluation. Those showing symptoms of COVID-19 will undergo a PCR test upon arrival and must remain in quarantine until a negative result is confirmed.

Additional documents required

A completed declaration and declaration form must also be submitted prior to shipment. Additionally, a completed traveler's declaration form must be submitted on departure and prior to arrival. Completing this form generates a QR code that must be provided to leave the airport.

 Tips before departing

  Make sure you arrive at San Juan airport (SJU) at least 3 hours before the flight if it is an international flight or 2 if it is a domestic one.
