Terminal 1

Houses Concourses B and C. It serves as United Airlines' global headquarters hub for domestic and international departures, alongside Star Alliance partner flights.

  • All Nippon Airways (ANA): Departures and check-in on the upper level (nonstop long-haul flights to Tokyo). Arrivals are handled at Terminal 5.
  • Lufthansa: Departures and ticketing on the upper level (service to Frankfurt and Munich). Arrivals at Terminal 5.
  • United Airlines / United Express: Primary hub offering over 180 direct domestic and international destinations. Full-service ticketing and bag drop on Level 2. Non-precleared international arrivals deplane at Terminal 5.

Issues to resolve with the Airline before or after the trip (Updated 2026)

Many passengers do not know who to contact or how to file a complaint when doubts or problems arise before or after a trip. Below are the key topics that should be checked, coordinated or resolved directly with the airline, ideally well in advance.
 
  Check-in process and documentation (passport validity)
 
In addition to a visa, many countries require your passport to remain valid for a minimum period (often 3 to 6 months) beyond your arrival or departure date. It is not always enough for it to be valid until your return. Confirm the requirement with the airline and the embassy of your destination country before checking in online.
  Luggage limits, prohibited items and cabin baggage rules in Europe
 
In July 2026 the EU approved a reform of air passenger rights that guarantees a free personal item (up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm) that fits under the seat. The new rules are expected to apply from 2027, and airlines can still charge for a larger overhead cabin bag. Check the baggage policy of your specific fare to avoid charges at the gate.

A reform approved in July 2026 keeps these amounts and the 3-hour threshold, and adds new deadlines for claims; it is expected to apply from 2027. Keep your boarding pass, receipts and all communications with the airline.
  Traveling with pets (cabin or cargo hold) and guide dogs
 
Many airlines allow small pets in the cabin with prior booking and a fee, but spaces per flight are limited, so reserve early.
Guide or assistance dogs: they usually travel free of charge in the cabin, but you should notify the airline at least 48 hours in advance and carry the required documentation (identification, vaccination record and health certificate). Do not leave this until you are at the airport.
