Rental Process at the Airport
The process for renting a car at Lisbon Airport follows two important steps:
- Contract at the Terminal: First, you must go to the rental agency counters, located in the arrivals area of Terminal 1.
- Vehicle Pickup: Once the contract is completed, a courtesy shuttle from the company itself will take you to a nearby parking lot, outside the terminal, where you will receive the vehicle.
Requirements and Tips for Renting
- Minimum Age: Generally 21 years old, and drivers under 25 are usually subject to an additional fee.
- Driver's License: You must present a valid driver's license. If it is not from the European Union, it is recommended to have an International Driving Permit (IDP).
- Credit Card: It is essential to have a credit card in the name of the main driver to leave a security deposit.
- Electronic Tolls: Many highways in Portugal have exclusively electronic tolls. To avoid fines, request the rental of the "Via Verde" toll device at the counter.

5 tips for renting a car abroad
- Make sure your driver's license is valid in the destination country. Some countries also require an International Driving Permit (IDP). Keep in mind that the IDP is not valid on its own: it must always be carried together with your national driver's license.
- Check the documents and insurance required by local traffic laws, and what coverage is included in your rental (collision damage waiver, third-party liability, deductible).
