Requirements for renting a car in Peru

Before booking, make sure you meet the general requirements requested by most agencies in the country:

  • Minimum age: Generally, the minimum age to rent is 21. Drivers aged 21 to 25 usually pay an additional daily fee.
  • Driver's license: You must present a valid and current driver's license from your country of origin, with at least 1 year of tenure. If it is in a non-Latin alphabet, an International Driving Permit is required.
  • Credit card: It is essential to have a physical credit card in the main driver's name (debit is not accepted). The security deposit varies depending on the vehicle, from $300 USD to higher amounts.
  • Identification document: You must present your passport or current identification document.

Available Rental Agencies

The counters of the main car rental companies are located on the second floor, in the international arrivals area of the terminal. Some companies operate 24 hours. To check schedules, vehicle fleet, and make a direct reservation, you can visit their official websites:

Note: It is recommended to check opening hours and vehicle availability directly on each company's website, as they may be subject to change. Some companies operate with a Meet & Greet service, where staff waits for you in the arrivals hall with a sign.

To secure the best rates and availability of the vehicle you want, it is highly recommended to compare prices online and book in advance.

5 tips for renting a car abroad

What to consider:

  1. Make sure your driver's license is valid in the destination country. Some countries also require an International Driving Permit (IDP). Keep in mind that the IDP is not valid on its own: it must always be carried together with your national driver's license.
  2. Check the documents and insurance required by local traffic laws, and what coverage is included in your rental (collision damage waiver, third-party liability, deductible).
  3. Learn the traffic rules of the destination country: speed limits on highways and city streets, right of way at intersections without traffic lights, blood alcohol limits, tolls, etc.
  4. Check which side of the road traffic drives on, and whether the steering wheel is on the same side as in your home country.
  5. Know what to do if you are involved in a traffic accident: who to call, what to document and how to report it to the rental company.
