Requirements for Renting a Vehicle
To rent a car in Brazil and drive in the Foz do Iguaçu region, the following requirements generally apply:
- Minimum age: You must be at least 21 years old (some rental companies allow drivers between 18 and 20 years old for an additional fee).
- Driver's license: Present a valid driver's license that has been held for at least two years. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not mandatory for Mercosur citizens, but it is recommended for other foreign visitors.
- Credit card: A credit card in the name of the reservation holder is required for the security deposit.
- Cross-border travel: If you plan to cross into Puerto Iguazú (Argentina) or Ciudad del Este (Paraguay), you must inform the rental company in advance.
