Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.
Spending the night at the airport
Hamburg Airport operates numerous flights and connections. For this reason, it is common to see many passengers waiting for their flights overnight. While the terminals remain open 24 hours a day, passengers wishing to stay overnight must remain in the Arrivals area after the security checkpoints close. Moreover, access to the enclosure is not permitted between 1:00 am and 4:00 am.
Where to rest: There are no seats in the Arrivals area, so the only option is to sleep on the floor. It is therefore advisable to bring a sleeping bag or blankets. There are also some VIP lounges in the airport, but they close at night. One hotel is connected to the terminals, and several nearby accommodations offer free shuttle services.
Baggage: Left-luggage offices are only available from 4:30 am to 11:00 pm. This means you will need to stay with your bags until check-in.
Eating and drinking: Currently, there are no dining options open during the night.
Restrooms: Showers available in the Airport Plaza and VIP lounges.
Wi-Fi: Free for 24 hours.
Other services available around the clock: ATMs, children's play areas, prayer room, baby changing facilities.
