Requirements for Hiring a Vehicle
If you decide to hire a car and drive yourself around Bali, you must meet the following mandatory requirements:
- International Driving Permit (IDP): In Indonesia, drivers are required to present a valid International Driving Permit (issued under the 1949 or 1968 conventions) together with their original driving licence from their home country.
- Passport: You must present your original passport with a minimum validity of six months.
- Minimum age: Most rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 years old, although this may vary depending on the type of vehicle.
- Credit card: A credit card is essential for paying the vehicle security deposit.
Recommendation: In Bali, traffic drives on the left and road conditions can be extremely congested and chaotic. For this reason, most visitors choose chauffeur-driven vehicle hire, which is generally very affordable and avoids the legal and navigational challenges associated with driving on the island.

- Certify that you have a valid driver's license to drive in the destination country. If you are a foreigner, check if you need to validate your license in your country of origin. It should be noted that the International permit is NOT valid by itself, it must always be accompanied by the National Driver's License.
