Requirements for Renting a Vehicle

When picking up the vehicle at the airport counters, rental companies require the following documentation and conditions:

• Minimum age: The usual minimum age for renting a vehicle is 21. Drivers between the ages of 21 and 24 are generally subject to a daily young driver fee and may face restrictions on luxury models or large SUVs. Drivers aged 25 and over are eligible for the standard rate without an age-related surcharge.
• Driver's license: An original, physical, valid driver's license from the country of residence, held for at least one or two years. If the license is not written in Latin characters, it must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit (IDP).
• ID or passport: A valid passport showing immigration entry into Honduras (for international travelers) or a National Identification Document (DNI for Honduran citizens).
• Credit card for security deposit: A physical credit card in the name of the reservation holder is required, with sufficient available credit for the temporary security deposit hold (generally between USD 1,000 and 2,000, depending on the vehicle and the insurance deductible level). Rental companies generally do not accept debit cards or cash for the security deposit.
• Insurance and coverage: Mandatory third-party liability coverage (TPL/ALI) and collision or theft protection (CDW/LDW), which can be purchased directly at the counter or added when making the reservation.
