Buses

Public transport services are operated by Translink. You can pay for your journey using a Go Card (pay-as-you-go) or the Go Explore tourist card (unlimited daily travel). Cards can be purchased or topped up at the WHSmith store located in the Domestic Arrivals area.

  • Route 777: A limited-stop service connecting the airport with the Broadbeach South tram station. From there, you can take the G:link tram to Surfers Paradise, Southport and beyond. It operates daily from 5:15 am to 11:30 pm, with departures every 15 minutes between 6:30 am and 8:30 pm.
  • Route 760: Connects the terminal with Varsity Lakes train station every 30 minutes. The route also includes stops at Tweed Heads, Coolangatta, Tugun, Currumbin and Robina.

Private and shared transfers

Con-X-Ion Transfers provides transfer services to destinations such as Burleigh, Brisbane and Noosa. You can book at their airport counter, open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, or use the self-service kiosk for bookings outside these hours. For more information, visit their website.

Trains

Although there is no direct train station at the airport, you can reach Brisbane city centre in approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes by using the train line departing from Varsity Lakes station. To get there from the airport, you need to take Route 760 bus.

Ride-sharing

Ride-sharing services have a designated pick-up area at the kerb near the departures level (upper floor). For Uber, the pick-up zone is located at the southern end of the terminal, just outside Domestic Arrivals, and features an Uber Lounge where you can wait comfortably while requesting your ride. DiDi and Shebah also operate from this same general ride-share area.

Taxis

The official taxi rank is located at the southern end of the terminal, just outside International Arrivals and opposite the Rydges Gold Coast Airport hotel. You can use vehicles from 13cabs and Black and White Cabs. The journey to Surfers Paradise takes around 25 minutes, while the trip to Brisbane takes approximately 1 hour.

Transportation Tips to/from the airport

Some of these tips may seem obvious, but they are worth keeping in mind when traveling to or from the airport, especially if you are using public transportation.
 
 1 - To the airport: leave a little earlier than usually recommended. If you take a taxi or a private car service, allow for rush hour traffic, demonstrations, strikes or events that could delay your trip. It always helps to check the local news before you leave.
 
If you book a shared shuttle, keep the company's contact number handy in case the pickup is late. These services usually confirm a scheduled pickup time in advance.
 
If you use public transportation (bus or train), check the schedules (weekends and holidays usually have less frequent service), whether you need to transfer, and how to pay the fare (a transit card, or cash to the driver). These details seem obvious, but knowing them ahead of time can save you from a delay that could cause problems.
 
If you drive a rental car to the airport, check where to return it. Many airports have a dedicated rental car return area.
 
 2 - From the airport: this part is less stressful, since there is no risk of missing a flight. At worst, you will reach your hotel or meeting point a little later than planned.
 
Once you leave the plane, collect your baggage and complete any required arrival procedures. Then follow the signs for ground transportation or ask airport staff.
 
Check bus and train schedules in advance if you arrive late at night, since not all services run 24 hours. The same applies to taxis. If you plan to use a ride-hailing app such as Uber, have it ready on your phone to contact the driver.
 
If you booked a private transfer, a driver will usually be waiting for you with a sign. If you are renting a car, booking in advance gives you more peace of mind. Rental counters are usually located in the arrivals hall.
