Sleeping inside or in nearby hotels at MDT Airport

Overnight layover guide: sleeping options in the public area and the boarding area

Overnight Hours and Access

Harrisburg International Airport terminal remains open 24 hours a day on the landside (public area). However, the TSA security checkpoint closes each evening after the final departing flight and reopens early in the morning. Passengers without an issued boarding pass or those who have not cleared security before closure must stay in the public concourses on Level 1 or Level 2.

Sleeping and Resting Areas

The public area on the second floor offers standard terminal seating as well as wooden rocking chairs. Most benches have fixed armrests, making it difficult to stretch out without a sleeping mat or travel blanket. Travelers seeking uninterrupted rest can book a room at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, linked directly to the terminal via the indoor walkway.

Luggage Storage

There are no left-luggage lockers or baggage check services at the airport due to federal aviation security rules.

Overnight Dining

All restaurants and concession stands close overnight. During late hours, the only options available are beverage and snack vending machines located on Level 1.

Security and Wi-Fi

The terminal is regularly monitored overnight by airport police officers. Free terminal-wide Wi-Fi remains accessible throughout the night.

Other 24-Hour Services

ATMs and public restrooms with infant changing tables are accessible around the clock in the public lobby.
