Overnight stay at the airport

Can you spend the night at Manaus airport (MAO)? Opening hours, rest areas and services for long layovers. See also the airport guide for general information.

Overnight Access

The airport remains open 24 hours a day. Passengers with early morning departures or overnight connections may remain inside the terminal building throughout the night.

Resting Areas

Most seating throughout public and airside departure halls features fixed armrests, preventing passengers from lying flat across rows. If spending the night, it is advisable to bring warm clothing (terminal air conditioning runs cool overnight) and a sleeping pad or blanket to sleep on the floor in quieter corners on the upper level. In the Terminal 1 departure hall, the Harmony Lounge operates 24/7 with a 3-hour visit limit.

Luggage Storage

The airport does not currently offer luggage storage lockers or left-luggage facilities.

24-Hour Dining

Select cafes and vending machines provide snacks and hot beverages throughout the overnight hours in Terminal 1.

Security and Wi-Fi

Police patrols and private security guards maintain a constant 24-hour presence. Free Wi-Fi remains active and accessible overnight.

Other 24-Hour Services

Banco24Horas ATMs, official Coopertaxi stands, and Localiza car rental offices operate around the clock.

Services and opening hours can change. If you plan to sleep in the public area, have a plan B: some airports only let passengers with a flight stay overnight.

  • ibis Manaus Aeroporto: Located on Av. do Turismo 6751, 2.5 km (1.5 miles) from the terminal (around 5 minutes by car). Features a 24-hour bar and on-site restaurant (no free airport shuttle; accessible by taxi or Uber).
  • TRYP by Wyndham Manaus: Situated on Av. Torquato Tapajós 9300, approximately 5 km (3.1 miles) from the airport.
  • Pousada 218: 2.9 km (1.8 miles).
  • Tucumã Motel: 3.8 km (2.4 miles).

Tips for a long layover

  1. Check whether you can leave the airport: it depends on your nationality, the visa rules of Brazil and whether your bags are checked through.
  2. If you sleep airside, you will usually need a boarding pass for a flight that day. Ask your airline before you go through security.
  3. A lounge with day access can be cheaper than a hotel for a few hours: see VIP lounges at MAO.
  4. Keep your valuables with you, set an alarm and carry a light layer: terminals are often cold at night.
