Is it possible to stay overnight at the airport?

New York JFK airport operates many flights and connections not only within the United States, but also in the rest of the world. Therefore, there is constant movement, even during the night and early morning hours. For this reason, it is common to see many passengers moving around the grounds waiting for their flight to depart.

Although all terminals are open 24 hours a day, the airport is not known for having comfortable places to rest, besides being quite cold, noisy and with many lights. Therefore, it is advisable to have a sleeping bag, blankets, an eye mask and earplugs handy.

Where to rest?

As mentioned above, there are not many opportunities to rest in the public areas and most seats have armrests, making it difficult to rest. Terminals 1 and 4 are, in general, the most comfortable, since at least they have gastronomic services throughout the night. In turn, Terminal 5 is the most modern and cleanest and may also present itself as an option, at least for lying on the floor.

If you are willing to pay, you have the TWA Lounge hotel, located next to Terminal 5. Another option (paying or through a credit card that provides the service) is to use one of the VIP lounges, where you can access greater comfort and privacy. The only problem is that they close at night. There are other accommodations nearby, of different categories, and some of them offer shuttle services. At the end of this article, there are some accommodation alternatives.

Showers are only available in some of the VIP lounges, but not in the public restrooms.

The TWA Lounge Hotel is located next to Terminal 5. Courtesy desks or telephones are available in the Arrivals Halls where reservations can be made at one of the many hotels in the vicinity. Most of these provide complimentary transportation to and from the airport.
