Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport is situated just 15 minutes by road from downtown Fort Lauderdale and roughly 30 to 40 minutes from Miami. Transportation customer service counters and personnel are located on the lower level (Arrivals) of each terminal.

Ride-sharing

Ride-hailing operators Uber and Lyft collect arriving passengers in designated zones on the lower level (Arrivals):

  • Terminal 1: Designated area in Zone Z, past the taxi queue.
  • Terminal 2: Designated area near the east exit of Arrivals.
  • Terminals 3 and 4: South side of the first floor in the Palm Garage (Zones A through D).

Passenger pickup locations are marked throughout the complex with signs depicting a mobile phone icon.

Local Buses

Broward County Transit (BCT) Route 1 provides daily service from stop G at the Rental Car Center (RCC), connecting the airport to Young Circle (Hollywood), Aventura Mall, and Broward Central Terminal in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Service runs Monday to Friday from 5:08 am to 12:20 am, Saturdays from 5:15 am to 12:17 am, and Sundays from 6:03 am to 10:01 pm. Standard one-way fare is USD 2.00.

In addition, routes 4, 6, 15, 16, and the 595 Express stop at the nearby airport Tri-Rail commuter rail station.

Commuter Train (Tri-Rail)

The Tri-Rail commuter rail system links Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties along an 18-station network, providing convenient access to Miami International Airport (MIA), West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Hollywood. Free shuttle buses transfer travelers from the terminal ground transportation stops directly to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at Dania Beach train station. Train travel time to downtown Fort Lauderdale is approximately 9 minutes (fares start at USD 3.75 based on zones traveled).

Taxis

Licensed metered taxis operate 24 hours a day outside the lower level (Arrivals) of all four terminals:

  • Terminal 1: West end.
  • Terminal 2: East end.
  • Terminal 3: North end.
  • Terminal 4: West end.

Fares are regulated by Broward County law and calculated by taximeter. Typical travel time to central Fort Lauderdale is between 15 and 20 minutes.

Transportation Tips to/from the airport

Some of these tips may seem obvious, but they are worth keeping in mind when traveling to or from the airport, especially if you are using public transportation.
 
 1 - To the airport: leave a little earlier than usually recommended. If you take a taxi or a private car service, allow for rush hour traffic, demonstrations, strikes or events that could delay your trip. It always helps to check the local news before you leave.
 
If you book a shared shuttle, keep the company's contact number handy in case the pickup is late. These services usually confirm a scheduled pickup time in advance.
 
If you use public transportation (bus or train), check the schedules (weekends and holidays usually have less frequent service), whether you need to transfer, and how to pay the fare (a transit card, or cash to the driver). These details seem obvious, but knowing them ahead of time can save you from a delay that could cause problems.
 
If you drive a rental car to the airport, check where to return it. Many airports have a dedicated rental car return area.
 
 2 - From the airport: this part is less stressful, since there is no risk of missing a flight. At worst, you will reach your hotel or meeting point a little later than planned.
 
Once you leave the plane, collect your baggage and complete any required arrival procedures. Then follow the signs for ground transportation or ask airport staff.
 
Check bus and train schedules in advance if you arrive late at night, since not all services run 24 hours. The same applies to taxis. If you plan to use a ride-hailing app such as Uber, have it ready on your phone to contact the driver.
 
If you booked a private transfer, a driver will usually be waiting for you with a sign. If you are renting a car, booking in advance gives you more peace of mind. Rental counters are usually located in the arrivals hall.
