Airlines at FAI

Airlines operating at Fairbanks airport (FAI), with their terminals and main destinations. See also the airport guide for general information.

Major Domestic Airlines and Routes

Mainline passenger carriers operate from the main passenger terminal, with check-in and ticketing counters positioned on the lower level:

  • Alaska Airlines: year-round nonstop flights to Anchorage and Seattle/Tacoma; seasonal direct routes to Chicago O'Hare and Portland.
  • Delta Air Lines: year-round nonstop services to Seattle/Tacoma; seasonal routes to Minneapolis/St. Paul and Salt Lake City.
  • United Airlines: seasonal summer flights connecting to Chicago O'Hare and Denver.
  • American Airlines: seasonal summer nonstop service to Dallas/Fort Worth.

Regional and Bush Commuter Airlines

Fairbanks serves as a vital lifeline hub for bush communities throughout interior Alaska. Regional air operators based at the airport include:

  • Wright Air Service: essential commuter and charter flights to over a dozen interior villages (Fort Yukon, Galena, Tanana, Allakaket, Anaktuvuk Pass, Arctic Village, Bettles, Hughes, Huslia, Ruby, Tok, Venetie, and more).
  • Everts Air Alaska: scheduled passenger flights and regional freight services across Alaska.
  • Warbelow's Air Ventures: regional bush commuter flights, backcountry charters, and air tours.
  • 40-Mile Air: regional links connecting communities such as Healy Lake, Delta Junction, and Tok.

Seasonal International and Charter Flights

During peak summer travel periods and winter tourist events, international flights operate at the airport:

  • Condor: seasonal nonstop summer passenger flights between Fairbanks and Frankfurt (Germany).
  • Air North: seasonal flights and charter connections to Dawson City and Whitehorse (Canada).

Routes and schedules change with the season and each airline's decisions. Check the airport or airline website before planning your trip.

What to sort out with your airline

Before or after your trip, these issues are handled directly with the airline, ideally well in advance:

  1. Check-in and documents: many countries require your passport to be valid for 3 to 6 months beyond your stay. Confirm it with the airline and the embassy of your destination before checking in online.
  2. Baggage: size and weight limits, prohibited items and fees for checked or excess baggage. Each fare has its own rules: read the fine print.
  3. Minors traveling alone or with one parent: some countries ask for a signed, sometimes notarized, consent. Ask about the airline's Unaccompanied Minor service, its age limits and deadlines.
  4. Reduced mobility and pregnancy: request assistance at least 48 hours in advance. Many airlines ask for a medical certificate from around week 28 of pregnancy.
  5. Pets and assistance dogs: spaces for pets in the cabin are limited, so book early. Assistance dogs usually travel free, with notice at least 48 hours ahead and the required documents.
  6. Changes and cancellations: check whether your fare allows a refund or only a voucher. If the airline changes your flight, ask about assistance (hotel, meals) and missed connections.
  7. Delays, cancellations and denied boarding: on flights covered by EU Regulation 261/2004, arriving 3 hours or more late or a last-minute cancellation may entitle you to €250 to €600 in compensation, unless there were extraordinary circumstances. Keep your boarding pass, receipts and messages.
