Overnight Hours and Access

Des Moines International Airport terminal remains open 24 hours a day, allowing passengers to stay overnight inside the building ahead of early morning departures. However, TSA security checkpoints close overnight following the last scheduled flight and reopen around 4:00 am, meaning overnight travelers must remain strictly on the public side (landside).

Rest Areas

Most landside seating features armrest dividers, although bench seating can be found in the check-in lobby. Travelers equipped with a sleeping mat or sleeping bag often use the carpeted areas adjacent to baggage claim. Bringing a warm layer is recommended, as terminal air conditioning can feel chilly during the night.

Luggage Storage

The airport does not operate luggage lockers or left-luggage storage facilities.

Food concessions and restaurants close overnight. Dining options during early morning hours are limited to automatic vending machines dispensing drinks and snacks.
