Can you spend the night at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA)? Find out if the airport is open 24 hours, which services and free rest areas are available, and the nearby hotels and VIP lounges.

Overnight layover guide: sleeping options in the public area and the boarding area

Please note that published services and schedules may change. If you plan to spend the night in the public area, have a plan B in case the airport only allows passengers with an upcoming flight to stay inside.

Overnight Stays and Rest Areas

The Charles L. Williams Terminal is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, the TSA security screening checkpoint closes overnight after the last departing flight and reopens early in the morning (roughly two hours prior to the first scheduled flight). As a result, travelers remaining in the airport overnight must stay on the landside (public) area, primarily around the ticketing lobby or baggage claim.

Seating in the public area is standard airport bench-style seating, most of which has fixed armrests that prevent lying flat. Travelers planning to sleep often rest on the floor with a travel mat or sleeping bag. Terminal air conditioning can make indoor temperatures quite cool at night, and lights stay illuminated, so bringing warm layers, a travel blanket, and an eye mask is highly recommended.

Night Amenities and Security

Terminal dining venues and shops close overnight following the day's final departure. Vending machines dispensing snacks and drinks are accessible 24/7 in the public concourse. Complimentary Wi-Fi runs uninterrupted, and airport security is on duty throughout the night. For a proper night's sleep, nearby hotels with complimentary airport shuttle service (such as the Courtyard or Four Points by Sheraton) are the most comfortable alternative.
