Metro - Airport MRT

The Taoyuan Airport MRT is the fastest and most convenient option to get to Taipei. The station is on level B1 of both terminals — follow the purple signs. Operates from 6:00 am to approximately 11:05 pm.

There are two types of service: the express train (purple), which stops only at main stations and takes 35 minutes from T1 and 38 minutes from T2 to Taipei Main Station, with departures every 15 minutes; and the local train (blue), which stops at all stations and takes about 50 minutes to Taipei. The fare is NT$160 from the airport to Taipei Main Station (NT$150 with the active promotional discount). It can be paid with EasyCard, iPASS, iCASH, or a token purchased at station machines. Express trains have luggage racks, USB chargers, and free 4G Wi-Fi.

The line continues beyond the airport to Laojie River (current terminus), with an extension to Zhongli Railway Station under construction (expected opening in 2028). At Taipei Main Station and New Taipei Industrial Park stations, it is possible to check in for your flight and check your luggage before arriving at the airport (In-Town Check-in), a service available for certain airlines.

From Taoyuan HSR (A18) station you can connect to the Taiwan High Speed Rail to Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and other cities on the island.

Taxis

Available 24 hours at the arrivals exit of both terminals (gate 12 in Terminal 1 and gate 26 in Terminal 2). Fares are metered; the journey to downtown Taipei takes between 40 and 50 minutes and costs approximately NT$1,200-1,500, plus highway tolls (~NT$40). Ride-hailing apps

Uber is the only international ride-hailing app available in Taiwan — Grab and other similar services do not operate in the country. In Taiwan, Uber works with drivers who are also licensed taxi drivers, so fares are similar to a standard taxi (NT$1,000-1,500 to Taipei), although with an estimated price visible before confirming and payment with an international card without the need for cash. Uber operates 24 hours; on night flights there may be longer waits, so it is recommended to book in advance through the app.

For those installing local apps, the most used are 55688 (Taiwan Taxi), with the largest fleet available on the island and the possibility of booking vans for groups; LINE Taxi, accessible directly from the LINE messaging app without the need to download an additional app; and FindTaxi, useful especially outside Taipei and in areas with lower availability. Keep in mind that some local apps require SMS verification with a Taiwanese number.

Buses

Several bus services connect the airport to Taipei and other destinations. Tickets are purchased at counters located in the arrivals hall (window 7 in Terminal 1, window 2 in Terminal 2). Buses depart from level B1 of Terminal 1 and from the arrivals exit of Terminal 2 (turn right twice after exiting immigration). The journey to downtown Taipei takes between 50 and 90 minutes depending on traffic. Operators are Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport, CitiAir Bus, Taoyuan Bus, UBus, and Rihao Bus. The 1819 Kuo-Kuang line operates 24 hours, with departures every 15-20 minutes during the day and every 30-60 minutes in the early morning — useful for night flights when the metro is no longer operating. The approximate fare is NT$140-150 depending on the destination in Taipei.
