How connections work at TPA

At Tampa airport, as at every airport in the United States, passengers arriving on an international flight must clear immigration (CBP) and customs, collect their checked bags and re-check them, and go through TSA security again before their connecting flight, even when both flights are on the same ticket.

Each airside (A, C, E and F) has its own TSA checkpoint and links only to the main terminal by an automated shuttle. Changing airsides means riding back to the main terminal, taking the other airside's shuttle and clearing its checkpoint.

There is no internal airside passport control. Arriving international passengers clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on arrival.

  • Connecting within the same airside takes under 5 minutes on foot and needs no rescreening.
  • Changing airsides takes 20 to 30 minutes at busy times, including security screening.
