Covid-19: Regulations for travel to Malaysia

International travel to Malaysia is only allowed for "essential reasons". There are exemptions for nationals and residents. You need to meet the requirements to ensure entry is allowed.

Exceptional travel

There are exemptions to border closure for those with long-term passes and travelers with the formal written approval of the Malaysian government. Vaccinations and travel rules for vaccinated people

Residents who present a valid international certificate for full COVID-19 vaccination, using an approved vaccine, can complete a shorter 7-day quarantine period at a government-approved facility. Travelers should be tested for COVID-19 on the fifth day. Travelers can request home quarantine between 7 and 10 days before the trip. During the application process, travelers must provide the travel itinerary, passport, visa, vaccination certificate, and residential address. You can find more information and the application procedures HERE

Quarantine is in effect upon arrival

Travelers must be quarantined for 10 days in a government-approved facility. Travelers must be tested for COVID-19 on the eighth day. All costs for quarantine and testing are borne by the traveler. Vaccinated travelers should only be quarantined for a 7-day period at a government-approved facility.

It is mandatory to submit medical certificate / proof

Upon arrival, proof of a negative RT-PCR test, taken within the previous 72 hours, must be presented.

 Tips before departing

  Make sure you arrive at Penang airport (PEN) at least 3 hours before the flight if it is an international flight or 2 if it is a domestic one.

After passing the security area you will get in at the boarding zone. Check you boarding gate and wait the airline call, always having in hand your passport and boarding pass.

  If you are a handicapped passenger, you should coordinate your trip with your airline at least 48 hours in advance and check the  Disabled Passengers facilities. Enjoy your flight!
