Requirements for Renting a Vehicle

To pick up a rental car at Montego Bay Airport, you must meet the following general requirements:

• Minimum age: Most companies require renters to be at least 21 to 25 years old, depending on the company and type of vehicle. Drivers under 25 are usually subject to a young driver surcharge.
• Driver's license: You must present a valid, current driver's license issued in your country of origin, held for at least one to two years. If your license is not in English or does not use the Latin alphabet, it is mandatory or recommended to carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) with it.
• Credit card: You must present a physical international credit card in the name of the reservation holder, with sufficient available credit to cover the pre-authorization of the security deposit. Debit cards and cash are generally not accepted for this purpose.
• Identification document: You must present your valid original passport and, in certain cases, your return ticket or confirmation of your outbound flight from the country.
• Driving side: Remember that traffic in Jamaica drives on the left side of the road (with the steering wheel on the right side of the vehicle), so extra caution is recommended at intersections and roundabouts when leaving the airport.
