Ground transportation options

Public transportation, licensed taxis and ride-hailing apps, private transfers and car rental at Kazan airport (KZN), 25 km from Kazan. See also the airport guide for general information.

The airport is well connected to the city centre of Kazan and its surrounding areas by electric train services, buses, and taxis. The railway station is directly linked to the terminal complex (T1 and 1A) via a covered walkway.

Trains

The electric train service, operated by Sodruzhestvo, connects the airport with the central railway station (Kazan-Passazhirskaya) in the heart of the city. It is the fastest option to avoid traffic congestion.

Duration and Frequency: The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Trains run from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm (timetables subject to seasonal changes). Intermediate stops include Stolbishche, Yubileynaya, Kombinat, Berezovaya Roshcha, and Vakhitovo.

Buses

Bus route 197 connects the airport with key points in the city, terminating at the Kazan Agro-Industrial Park.

Metro Connection: This route is particularly useful for reaching the Prospekt Pobedy metro station, from where you can transfer to reach the historic centre in just a few minutes.

Timetables: The service generally operates from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, with a frequency of every 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Taxis

You will find official counters for booking transfers in the arrivals area of Terminal 1A. It is recommended to arrange the service only at these official points or to use recognised mobile applications such as Yandex Go to ensure a regulated fare.

Travel time: The journey to central Kazan takes between 30 and 50 minutes, depending on the time of day and weather conditions.

Tips for getting to and from KZN

Going to the airport

  1. Leave earlier than you think you need to: Kazan airport is 25 km from Kazan. Allow for rush-hour traffic, strikes or events, and check the local news before you go.
  2. On public transportation, check the schedule (weekends and holidays usually have fewer services), whether you need to change lines and how to pay: transit card, contactless or cash.
  3. If you booked a shared shuttle, keep the company's phone number at hand in case the pickup is late.
  4. Returning a rental car? Follow the signs to the rental car return area. If you drive your own car, check parking at KZN.

Leaving the airport

  1. After baggage claim and customs, follow the ground transportation signs. The arrivals page has a step-by-step guide.
  2. Arriving late at night? Not every bus or train runs 24 hours: check the last departure in advance. Ride-hailing apps usually pick up at a designated zone, not at the curb.
  3. With a private transfer, the driver usually waits in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name.
  4. Renting a car? Booking ahead gives you better rates; see car rental at KZN.
  5. Staying near the airport? See hotels and overnight stay or hotels near KZN.
