Covid-19: Regulations for travel to Ecuador

If you have transited through another country that is considered to have a variant of the virus, the entry of travelers will not be allowed. The list of countries and more information can be found at https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/ecuador/entry-requirements

Other restrictions

Travelers going to the Galapagos Islands must submit a negative PCR test, taken within 72 hours prior to departure to Galapagos. All travelers must present a return ticket off the island. Foreign travelers must have travel medical insurance. A 'Galapagos traffic control card' must be completed at least 24 hours prior to departure. More information can be found at https://www.gobiernogalapagos.gob.ec/step-by-step-tct-online/

Mandatory vaccination

Travelers must present a valid international certificate for complete vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine. The final dose must have been administered at least 14 days prior to departure.

It is mandatory to submit medical certificate / proof

Proof of a negative RT-PCR test, taken within the previous 72 hours, must be provided upon departure.

Other medical measures

Those showing symptoms related to COVID-19 will be evaluated by a healthcare worker and can be taken to the nearest health center for a full evaluation. Travelers who test positive will be required to undergo self-isolation for 10 days.

Additional documents required

All travelers must complete a traveler's health declaration form upon arrival. This can be completed in advance if the flight information, such as the seat number, is known before the trip.


The Metrovía Metroexpress service stops right in front of the terminal and goes to the historic center, crossing the city from south to north. Ticket price: (0.30 USD).

The taxi and Uber fare range between 0.30 to 0.50 usd per km (between 3 and 4 USD to the city center). The terminal stop is exclusively for taxis, so if you choose UBER you will have to arrange the meeting point with the driver.

As a first requirement, you will need to have an accommodation reservation for every day that you are going to be on the island, in addition to the roundtrip plane ticket. Also during the check-in process, you must complete an entry form to the islands. Then you must go to the office of the Governing Council of the Galapagos Special Regime (located inside the airport – 5 am to 12 am) to deliver the form. There they will also check your luggage to make sure you are not carrying any of the restricted products (water, animal and vegetable derivatives, etc.). After the check, you will get the transit card by paying 20 USD (card or cash.

Once, landed at the Seymour Galapagos Airport, collect suitcases and pass the passport control, you must pay the National Park Entrance Fee in cash. There are several services available 24 hours, including some shops, duty free, food options and cafeterias, as well as VIP lounges and luggage storage service. So your stay can be more comfortable. If the long layover is overnight, you can book for a night in a hotel nearby .

The Secure Wrap located in the Arrivals Hall (tel. +593 (4) 2169246) offers luggage storage and is available 24 hours a day. It also has a packing service from 2 pm to 10 pm.

If your luggage or personal effects were lost during the trip, you should check with the respective airline. If they were lost inside the airport terminal, you can contact the Security Department during administrative hours by calling +593 (4) 2169169 ext. 1148.

Global Exchange offers a 24-hour currency exchange service in the Arrivals and Departures Hall. In turn, both at arrivals and departures, there are several ATMs from various banks. And Banco Bolivariano has a branch service through the departure lounge window, from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Due to the advancement of vaccination worldwide, documentation and testing restrictions have been eliminated in many countries. In fact, in some countries, by presenting the complete vaccination certificate against Coronavirus, RT-PCR or antigen test results are no longer required, nor is a health affidavit form.
