Spending the Night at the Airport

La Aurora International Airport operates 24 hours a day for commercial and cargo flights, and the terminal is open from 3:00 am until the last flight of the day. However, spending the night inside the airport is not officially permitted and is not particularly comfortable: passenger reports indicate that airport authorities do not allow travelers to sleep at the airport, and options for resting are limited. If you have a long layover or an early-morning departure, it is advisable to consider alternatives near the airport.

Rest Areas

• Departures Areas (after security): Some passengers have found seats with power outlets in front of Gate 9, as well as two soft sofas between Gates 5 and 6 (one behind Starbucks and another in front of the Sushi Inc store). However, the environment is noisy, with constant music and bright white lighting, and there are no private restrooms.
• Arrivals Floor: One passenger reported sleeping on the floor of the small restaurant area on the upper arrivals level while waiting for a morning shuttle, although the tiled floor is cold.
• General limitations: The airport's "sleeping in airport" rating is 1 out of 5, with frequent complaints about uncomfortable seats, bright lighting, and the lack of quiet areas.

Services Available Overnight

If you decide to stay at the airport, keep in mind that some key services operate on limited schedules:

• Food and Drinks: Options are limited overnight. Starbucks closes around 10:00 pm and reopens around 3:00 am. Some establishments remain open, but the selection is limited.
• Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.
• Drinking Water: Filtered water is available outside the restrooms, across from Starbucks.
• Currency Exchange and ATMs: Currency exchange offices operate from 5:00 am to 1:00 am; ATMs are available.
• VIP Lounges: Casa del Ron Airport is open from 3:30 am to 9:00 pm, while Copa Club operates from 3:30 am to 4:30 pm. Outside these hours, there is no access to VIP lounges for resting.

Recommended Alternative

Given the difficulty of sleeping comfortably inside the terminal, the most practical option is to stay at one of the hotels near the airport. Several properties less than 1 km away offer shuttle services and are ideal for long layovers or early-morning flights. Dai Nonni Hotel, located just a few minutes from the airport, is a notable option: guests praise its personalized service, spacious and clean rooms, and the thoughtful option of preparing breakfast to go for early-morning flights (from 5:00 am).

There are no hotels within the airport premises. However, the immediate surroundings of the terminal (Zone 13) are home to numerous hostels and family-run accommodations designed for travelers in transit, while just a few minutes away, in Zone 10 (Zona Viva), you will find the main international hotel chains.

• Lagoslodge LyL: A practical option for short layovers or overnight connections, thanks to its almost immediate access on foot or by a short taxi ride.
• Hotel Canaan La Aurora: Offers quiet and functional rooms, making it ideal for those who need to rest without complications before an early morning flight.
• Hostal Villa Toscana: Stands out for its welcoming atmosphere, safe residential surroundings, and facilities for arranging direct transportation to the terminal.
• Hostal Los Volcanes: An affordable and well-equipped option with early breakfast service, aimed at backpackers and passengers with tight itineraries.
• Novohostal B&B: Offers a home-like atmosphere with breakfast included and quick access to the airport, making it suitable for short leisure or business stays.

Hotels in the Surrounding Area and Recommendations

Approximately 3 to 5 kilometers from the airport, in the so-called Zona Viva (Zone 10) and Zone 9, you will find full-service international hotel chains such as Barceló Guatemala City, The Westin Camino Real, Real InterContinental Guatemala, and Clarion Suites, which generally offer executive amenities and business centers.

To explore more options and compare rates, we recommend using online booking platforms and searching specifically in Zone 13 (the airport area) or Zone 10. Before confirming your stay, always check the actual distance to the terminal and ask the hotel whether it offers complimentary transportation or a shuttle service to the airport.
