Sleeping at Yellowknife Airport

Spending the night inside Yellowknife Airport is neither permitted nor practical. While security personnel monitor the facility, commercial flight operations cease following the last arrival of the night (around 1:00 am) and resume around 4:00 am. During this overnight closure window, security guards routinely instruct passengers to leave the public areas of the building.

Additionally, the seating available in the departure lounge and public lobby features rigid armrests that prevent travelers from lying down. Combined with the absence of 24-hour dining concessions and sub-zero Arctic temperatures during much of the year, it is strongly advised to book accommodation in downtown Yellowknife in advance, selecting a hotel that provides airport shuttle service.
