Ground transportation options

Public transportation, licensed taxis and ride-hailing apps, private transfers and car rental at Muscat airport (MCT), 32 km from Muscat. See also the airport guide for general information.

Bus

Mwasalat line A1 (Tel +968 1551) departs from the station located on the ground floor outside the terminal and travels to Ruwi Station (45 minutes), passing through Al Azaiba, Al Khuwair, Sarooj, Qurum, Wataiyah, and Al Hamriya, every 20–30 min., 24 hours a day. It also travels to Al Mabelah, with stops at Burj Al Sahwa, Al Mawaleh, Al Hail, Al Khoudh Park, and Al Seeb.

Taxi

Vehicles are available to all areas of Muscat and beyond the city, including Barka, Al Musana, Nakhal, Sohar, Samail, and Izki. Taxis can be booked and paid for in advance at the counter located in the Arrivals area. The journey to central Muscat takes approximately 25 minutes. It is advisable to agree on a fare with the driver before departure. Some of the available companies include Otaxi (Tel +968 9061 0204) and Oman Taxi Tours (Tel +968 9272 3854).

Tips for getting to and from MCT

Going to the airport

  1. Leave earlier than you think you need to: Muscat airport is 32 km from Muscat. Allow for rush-hour traffic, strikes or events, and check the local news before you go.
  2. On public transportation, check the schedule (weekends and holidays usually have fewer services), whether you need to change lines and how to pay: transit card, contactless or cash.
  3. If you booked a shared shuttle, keep the company's phone number at hand in case the pickup is late.
  4. Returning a rental car? Follow the signs to the rental car return area. If you drive your own car, check parking at MCT.

Leaving the airport

  1. After baggage claim and customs, follow the ground transportation signs. The arrivals page has a step-by-step guide.
  2. Arriving late at night? Not every bus or train runs 24 hours: check the last departure in advance. Ride-hailing apps usually pick up at a designated zone, not at the curb.
  3. With a private transfer, the driver usually waits in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name.
