Practical Rental Information
- Security Deposit: Most companies require a deposit with an international credit card. Amounts are usually 600 USD for economy vehicles and up to 2,200 USD for SUVs and pickup trucks.
- Age Requirements: The general minimum age is 21. Drivers under 25 may have an additional daily charge.
- Border Crossing (Important): It is strictly prohibited to cross into neighboring countries (such as Chile) with most rental vehicles. If you plan to visit Torres del Paine or Puerto Natales, check in advance if the company allows it (this generally has an extra cost and special requirements).
- Driver's License: It is mandatory to present a valid driver's license and passport or ID. If your license is not in Spanish or Latin characters, it is recommended to have an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Most offices operate from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, although they may extend their hours during high season (December-March). It is always advisable to check vehicle availability in advance during the summer months.

5 tips for renting a car abroad
- Certify that you have a valid driver's license to drive in the destination country. If you are a foreigner, check if you need to validate your license in your country of origin. It should be noted that the International permit is NOT valid by itself, it must always be accompanied by the National Driver's License.
- Documentation and vehicle insurance required according to current traffic regulations.
- Take into account the traffic rules that currently apply in the destination country. Maximum speeds allowed on highways, avenues and streets, priorities of passage at intersections without traffic lights, tolerance of allowed blood alcohol, etc.
