Requirements for renting a vehicle

To rent a car in Paraguay, you generally need to meet the following standard requirements, although they may vary slightly depending on each company's policies:

• Minimum age: Most agencies require drivers to be at least 21 or 25 years old. Drivers under 25 are usually subject to an additional "young driver" fee and may face restrictions on certain luxury vehicle categories.
• Driver's license: You must present a valid domestic driver's license that has been held for a minimum period (usually 1 or 2 years). If you are a foreign visitor and your license was not issued by a Mercosur country or is not in Spanish, it is also advisable to present an International Driving Permit (IDP).
• Credit card: A credit card in the main driver's name is required to place the security deposit hold (deductible). Debit cards or cash are generally not accepted for this process.
