Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.
Spending the night at the airport
Johannesburg airport operates with many flights and connections to destinations around the globe, so it is frequent to see many passengers walking around late at night, waiting for their flight departure. There are many commercial stores inside the terminals, but most of them close around 11:00 pm.
Where to rest: The enclosure has numerous seats, but they generally have armrests. However, it is possible to find padded benches without armrests in some of the restaurants, the transit area and on the Departures level of Terminal B. There are several VIP lounges in case you have a bigger budget, although they close at night. In Terminal A, there is a transit hotel, and there are other options around the grounds.
Baggage: A left luggage service is available in the basement of Terminal A so you can forget about your bags while you rest.
Eating and drinking: Terminal B has a restaurant that remains open throughout the night.
Restrooms: There are showers only inside some of the VIP lounges.
Wi-Fi: Free for 4 hours.
Other services available around the clock: ATMs, currency exchange bureaus, prayer rooms, medical clinic, baby changing facilities.
Inside Terminal A is located the Protea Hotel by Marriott Transit O.R. Tambo Airport, while in front of the International Arrivals Hall is found the InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport Hotel. The City Lodge Hotel OR Tambo International Airport, on the other hand, is situated above car park P2. Other alternatives nearby are:
