Connecting at Brisbane airport

Connection time calculator, immigration and security, and how to move between terminals at BNE.

How connections work at BNE

At Brisbane airport, passengers connecting between two international flights can usually stay in the transit area without going through immigration. If you connect from an international to a domestic flight, you enter the country here: you go through immigration and collect and re-check your bags.

The airport has 2 terminals or concourses (Domestic Terminal, International Terminal). They are not connected after security: changing means going through security again.

Connecting passengers go through a transfer security screening.

Terminals / concourses: Domestic Terminal, International Terminal

Getting between them: Free terminal transfer bus (about 10 minutes); Airtrain every 15 minutes at peak, 30 off-peak, about 5 minutes, AUD 5 one way

The Domestic and International terminals are about 4 km apart. International transit passengers with bags checked through and an onward boarding pass stay in the International Terminal; international to domestic means passport control, bags, customs and quarantine.

  • Qantas and Virgin Australia passengers can drop bags at the Domestic Transfer Desk in the International Terminal before taking the free bus.
  • International transit with checked-through bags: follow the International Transit/Transfer signs to the Level 3 departures area without leaving the terminal.

Estimate based on typical times at this airport, not your airline's official minimum connection time. Immigration and security lines change with the time of day and season. On a single ticket, the airline must rebook you if you miss the connection; on separate tickets, it does not.
