 Transportation

Ben Gurion Airport offers several transport options providing efficient connections to the country's main cities. It is important to note that public transport in Israel (trains and buses) does not operate during the Shabbat, which extends from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening.

Trains

The Israel Railways station is located on Level S (ground floor) of Terminal 3. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines or by using authorised payment applications. The main services include:

  • High-speed line to Jerusalem: Connects the airport with Yitzhak Navon Station in approximately 20-25 minutes. On weekdays, trains run every 30 minutes.
  • Line to Tel Aviv and the North: The journey to Tel Aviv Savidor Central Station takes around 15-20 minutes, with stops at HaHagana and HaShalom. Services continue to cities such as Haifa, Acre and Nahariya.

Buses

Bus stops are located on the second level, opposite Terminal 3 (gates 21-25). The most relevant services are:

  • Route 445 (Kavim): Connects the airport with the hotel district and the centre of Tel Aviv.
  • Route 485 (Tnufa): Service to Jerusalem with frequent departures.
  • Route 5 (Egged): Acts as a link between the airport and Airport City (the adjacent commercial area), from where passengers can transfer to routes serving Ramla, Rehovot, Petah Tikva and Netanya (routes 244, 249, 423, 947, among others).
  • Route 354 (Metropoline): To Be'er Sheva, with stops in Lod, Ramla, Kiryat Gat and other towns.

Taxis

Official taxi ranks are regulated and operate 24 hours a day. The authorised ranks are located outside Exit 03 (ground floor) of Terminal 3 and on the outer pavement of the arrivals hall of Terminal 1. The estimated travel time to central Tel Aviv is 25 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Authorised operators at the airport are assigned according to the passenger's destination:

  • Hadar Lod Taxi: Provides urban and general services using vehicles equipped with official taximeters.
  • Nesher Taxis: Specialises in shared and direct transfers to Jerusalem and the surrounding areas.
  • Amal Taxis: Focuses on connecting the airport with the city of Haifa and the districts of northern Israel.

For updated timetables and specific routes, you can visit the airport's official transport portal.

Transportation Tips to/from the airport

Some of these tips may seem obvious, but they are worth keeping in mind when traveling to or from the airport, especially if you are using public transportation.

1 - To the airport: leave a little earlier than usually recommended. If you take a taxi or a private car service, allow for rush hour traffic, demonstrations, strikes or events that could delay your trip. It always helps to check the local news before you leave.

If you book a shared shuttle, keep the company's contact number handy in case the pickup is late. These services usually confirm a scheduled pickup time in advance.

If you use public transportation (bus or train), check the schedules (weekends and holidays usually have less frequent service), whether you need to transfer, and how to pay the fare (a transit card, or cash to the driver). These details seem obvious, but knowing them ahead of time can save you from a delay that could cause problems.

If you drive a rental car to the airport, check where to return it. Many airports have a dedicated rental car return area.

2 - From the airport: this part is less stressful, since there is no risk of missing a flight. At worst, you will reach your hotel or meeting point a little later than planned.

Once you leave the plane, collect your baggage and complete any required arrival procedures. Then follow the signs for ground transportation or ask airport staff.

Check bus and train schedules in advance if you arrive late at night, since not all services run 24 hours. The same applies to taxis. If you plan to use a ride-hailing app such as Uber, have it ready on your phone to contact the driver.

If you booked a private transfer, a driver will usually be waiting for you with a sign. If you are renting a car, booking in advance gives you more peace of mind. Rental counters are usually located in the arrivals hall.
