Nighttime Closure

Henry E. Rohlsen Airport does not operate 24 hours for passenger terminal use and closes nightly between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM (or 5:30 AM) AST. As a result, overnight stays inside the terminal are strictly not permitted.

Advice for Travelers

During the overnight closure period, security checkpoints, airline counters, and concessions are entirely closed. Passengers arriving on late evening flights or departing early in the morning should book overnight accommodations in Christiansted or Frederiksted in advance and arrange reliable road transport.

Services and opening hours can change. If you plan to sleep in the public area, have a plan B: some airports only let passengers with a flight stay overnight.

Tips for a long layover

  1. Check whether you can leave the airport: it depends on your nationality, the visa rules of Virgin Islands and whether your bags are checked through.
  2. If you sleep airside, you will usually need a boarding pass for a flight that day. Ask your airline before you go through security.
