Ground transportation options

Public transportation, licensed taxis and ride-hailing apps, private transfers and car rental at Linz airport (LNZ), 12 km from Linz. See also the airport guide for general information.

Bus

Line 601 of OÖVV (Tel +43 732 6610 1066) connects the airport with the city centre in about 22 minutes. Tickets cost €3.90. Buses operate Monday to Friday between 5:30 am and 11:30 pm, Saturdays from 6:00 am to 11:30 pm, and Sundays from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm. Stops include Hörsching, Pasching, and Leonding.

SMS Flughafentransfer (Tel +43 662 8161) operates door-to-door minibus services for up to eight passengers. The company’s counter is located in the Arrivals area, opposite the terminal exit.

Train

The nearest station is located in Hörsching, which can be reached between 5:00 am and 11:00 pm via a shuttle bus service that must be requested at the airport information desk or by calling Tel +43 7221 600 1101. Trains depart hourly from Hörsching to Linz Central Station (10 min.) and to Wels (14 min.)

Taxi

Taxi ranks are located directly in front of the Arrivals Hall. The journey to Linz city centre takes approximately 20 minutes and costs €38.00–41.00. Tips for getting to and from LNZ

Going to the airport

  1. Leave earlier than you think you need to: Linz airport is 12 km from Linz. Allow for rush-hour traffic, strikes or events, and check the local news before you go.
  2. On public transportation, check the schedule (weekends and holidays usually have fewer services), whether you need to change lines and how to pay: transit card, contactless or cash.
  3. If you booked a shared shuttle, keep the company's phone number at hand in case the pickup is late.
  4. Returning a rental car? Follow the signs to the rental car return area. If you drive your own car, check parking at LNZ.

Leaving the airport

  1. After baggage claim and customs, follow the ground transportation signs. The arrivals page has a step-by-step guide.
  2. Arriving late at night? Not every bus or train runs 24 hours: check the last departure in advance. Ride-hailing apps usually pick up at a designated zone, not at the curb.
  3. With a private transfer, the driver usually waits in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name.
