Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport, also known as JAP and opened in 1928, is the main airport in Suriname, serving not only Paramaribo (the capital), but also the rest of the country. It operates with flights to Amsterdam, the United States, Brazil, Guyana and different destinations in the Caribbean.

The airport is located in the town of Zanderij, 45 km (28 miles) to the south of Paramaribo.

The airport has ATMs, currency exchange bureau (24 hours a day), mobile phone services and free Wi-Fi access. The Sabaku Lounge is open from 5:30 am to 11:00 pm and located in the Departures area; it provides snacks, newspapers and magazines, Wi-Fi (accessible for business class passengers from Surinam Airways).

Shopping- Duty-free goods (liquor, tobacco, perfumes), jewellery, gifts, handicrafts.
Baggage- In case of missing luggage, head for the offices of the appropriate airline.

Bus - There are private or shared services provided by Garage DA Ashruf (Tel +597 450 102 / 454 451) and Garage de Paarl (Tel +597 403 600 / 610). The vehicles run to Paramaribo and other destinations in the country.
Taxi - Ranks available outside the terminal. It is recommended to agree on a fare with the driver before departing. Travel time to downtown Paramaribo is 80-90 minutes.
